Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a secure browser required for some online in class tests. It restricts what you can do during a test to support academic integrity - you won't be able to open other programs or browser tabs, browse the internet, or print or copy questions. Respondus Monitor is a remote proctoring system used to record webcam, microphone, and screen during an assessment and flag suspicious activity for review.
This guide walks you through downloading RLDB and completing a practice quiz so you're prepared before your first assessed test.

The practice quiz is in the Student Induction space in VU Collaborate. Complete it before any taking assessed test that requires RLDB.
If you haven't installed RLDB yet, you'll be prompted to do so when you open the quiz.
Watch how to take a practice quiz, or view the guide in full text view .
RLDB is compatible with many assistive technologies. See Accessibility with LockDown Browser on the Respondus website for details.
If a technical issue occurs mid-test:
Your teacher will enter a password to close LockDown Browser.
The quiz can then be restarted and will continue from where you left off.
Only if your teacher has explicitly said so. If you're unsure, ask before the test. See Can an iPad be used to take a LockDown Browser exam? on the Respondus website.
Mac users: grant camera and microphone permissions
If you're running macOS 12.0 or later and using RLDB for the first time, you'll need to manually grant it permission to access your camera and microphone. See macOS 12.0 Camera and Microphone Permissions on the Respondus support site.
For other Mac-specific issues, see the Mac support articles on the Respondus website.
