Accessing a Zoom Classroom

Are you attending a class via Zoom? This guide will walk you through the setup process, including downloading the Zoom App, signing in with your VU account and joining your first Zoom classroom session.

SSO (single sign-on) with VU Student Email now required

From Monday 15th July 2024 for Semester 2 classes (H2B1, H8W3, EL6, HV05), sign-in will be required, to access your Zoom sessions.

Get ready now:
(1) Download the Zoom app
(2) Sign in with SSO (VU account)
(3) Join the Zoom Test Meeting (Waiting Room)

Zoom Workplace App

For the best Zoom experience, we recommend downloading the Zoom Workplace desktop App and signing in with your VU account.
Once this is done, meetings will launch immediately.

 

Download the Zoom App

1. Go to the Zoom Download Center https://zoom.us/download 

2. Under 'Zoom Workplace Desktop App', click 'Download' to get the installer.

3. Once the download is complete, open the installer, to install the Zoom App.

 

Sign in with SSO

1. Open the Zoom App

2. Click 'Sign in'.

3. Skip entering any email or password here. You will be prompted for your VU student email and password after clicking SSO
4. To sign in, tick 'Keep me signed in' (1), then select 'SSO' (Single Sign-On) (2).

5. Enter the domain name 'victoriauniversity' (1) then click 'Continue' (2).

6. Log in with your VU Username, in the format This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and Password.

7. You are now ready to join a Zoom Classroom session.

Zoom Classroom

To join a Zoom Classroom session, you must sign in with your VU account.

For the best Zoom experience, we recommend downloading the Zoom Workplace desktop App and signing in with your VU account.
Once this is done, meetings will launch immediately. Otherwise, you will need to log in each time you join a Zoom Classroom session.

 

Access Zoom Classroom

1. In your VU Collaborate unit space from the navbar, select 'Communication' (1), then 'Zoom Classroom' (2).

Join a Zoom Classroom

1. From the list of scheduled Zoom meetings, select 'Join' (3), to launch your virtual classroom.

Do you have odd Meeting Times listed?
Check that you have the correct current Time Zone selected. See How do I check my Time Zone settings?

Open Zoom Meetings

1. In the popup box, select the 'Open Zoom Meetings' (1).
2. Select 'Join with computer audio' (2), to join the Zoom session.

If you are not signed in, take one of the following join options:

Zoom app is installed and you are:
(1) Signed in with VU account: Click 'Open Zoom Meetings'
(2) Not signed in: Click 'Sign in to join', see Sign in with SSO.
(3) Signed in with another account: Click 'Sign in to join', see Sign in with SSO or see Switching between accounts.
Zoom app is not installed
(4) Haven't downloaded the Zoom app: Click 'Download Now'. See Zoom Workplace App.
(5) Can't download the Zoom App: Click 'Join from Your Browser' and sign in with your VU Username and Password.

How can I test if I can join a Zoom Meeting?

Join the Zoom Test Meeting (Waiting Room)

The Test Zoom Meeting (waiting room) is available, to check that you can join a Zoom session, when VU Authentication is required.

1. Open the Join the Zoom Test Meeting (Waiting Room) page in a tab or window.

Zoom Workplace app is installed and you are:

(1) Signed in:

  • in 'Open Zoom Meetings?' popup box.
    Click 'Open Zoom Meetings' to join the waiting room.

(2) Not signed in:

  • in 'Sign in to join the meeting' popup box.
    Click 'Sign in to join', see Sign in with SSO.

  • Click 'Join from Your Browser' (2) and sign in with your VU Username and Password.

How can I check which account I'm signed in with?

To check you are signed in with your VU account:

1. In Zoom, click on the Profile icon (1), located at the top right corner of the window.

2. Check that your VU email address (2) (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) is displayed.

How can I switch between accounts?

Do you have multiple Zoom accounts? If so, add and easily switch between them.

1. If you haven't added your VU account, from the Profile icon (1) select 'Add account', and Sign in with SSO.

2. From your Profile icon (1), select 'Switch account' (2), then select your VU account (3).

How do I check my Time Zone settings?

Odd Meeting Times? Check your time zone

If your Zoom session times differ from your scheduled classes, check your current Time Zone settings (1) below the Zoom heading.
To edit, select the pencil icon (2)

In the popup box, select your Time Zone (1) i.e. '(GMT +10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney', then update (2).
